Floral Media - A Day in the Life at Floret Flower Farm

It's just the beginning of January and we can only dream of picking our own flowers in the garden. But here is a lovely little video to help us remember the colours and beauty we can look forward to.
It's filmed on Floret - an organic flower farm in Washington state in America. 



Floret Flower Farm is family owned flower farm run by Erin and Chris Benzakein.

Here is a little bit about Erin and the farm from their website:

"Erin is Floret’s founder, and is honored to be considered one of the nation’s leading “farmer-florists”—a term she has helped popularize to describe those skilled at both flower farming and floral design—and her exuberance for seasonal flowers has helped inspire a new crop of beginning farmer-florists. " Big pieces, such as urns and large vases, go quite fast. I love dramatic statement pieces, and I think my excitement speeds things up," she says. 
"Centrepieces or low arrangements often take a bit of time, since securing all the elements in a 'pin frog' can be a bit tricky." In line with her sensual spirit, Erin also has an unusual predilection: "I love weaving edibles - cherry tomatoes, strawberries, baby apples, raspberries, bush beans, herbs, carrots - into bouquets, as well as airy elements so that the slightest breeze can catch a component." To get started, this ambitious achiever's advice is simple: "Just skip your latte once a week and buy a posy of sweet peas instead!"

Floral Media # 13 Thinking of Spring Flowers!

Charlotte Andersson is a fellow Swede who writes the blog Trädgårdsflow. I've followed her amazing gardening blog for years and since April 2013 is the gardening editor of the Swedish magazine Lantliv. She has also opened a web shop, Garden Flow Shop, where she sells stylish things for the garden. 

Erin Benzakein from Floret Flower Farm has put together a blog post called My Favourite Sweet Peas - where she tells us how she picks out her special sweet peas to grow on their flower farm in Skagit Valley in Washington. 

Here is a pretty image of spring tulips by Linda Lomelino - the Swedish cake lady - I know I've featured her many times - but I just can't resist her photography and her cakes....!



A few potted spring flowers by Minna Mercke Schmidt from Blomsterverkstad  - another favourite Swede of mine! Minna is not only an amazing photographer but also a general styling guru for anybody who likes working with flowers.



Erin Boyle from Gardenista shows you a quick and easy way to disguise a plastic pot.  Using a simple brown paper bag and ribbon it becomes a chic and stylish gift to give away this spring.



If you are ever in Copenhagen in Denmark - go and visit Martin Reinicke and his shop Blomsterskuret in the Vesterbro district. Martin is a florist and a potter and his charming shop has beautifully arranged flowers in baskets outside the shop. Featured on Gardenista by Alexa Hotz - who asks the question - World's Most Beautiful Flower Shop?

This last link is for all you gardeners out there - a quiz - The Daily Telegraph has put together 80 questions to test your general knowledge about gardening. Mind you it's quite challenging!
