Of Spring and Summer is a blog that explores flowers, floral
styling and photography with some vintage and retro thrown in.
Its founder and editor, Ingrid Henningsson is a Swedish stylist
and photographer, who is now based in London, England - combining Scandinavian
aesthetics with the vibrancy of London life.
Ingrid launched Of
Spring and Summer in 2009 and the blog is now updated throughout the week.
The topics range from flowers and flower arranging tips, floral colour stories,
moodboards and flower photography and videos plus book and magazine reviews and
inspirational floral quotes by florists and other flower lovers.
Ingrid went to Camberwell School of Art and Camden Art
Centre where she did painting, drawing and textiles. Later on she trained as a
garden designer and horticulturalist at The English Gardening School in London. After her training
she worked at the school for six years. She lectured in flower and plant
knowledge, botanical nomenclature and horticulture; and she supervised and
marked the student's Plant Portfolios that they created for the Practical
Horticulture course at the school.
She has worked on a freelance basis as a horticultural
researcher for the BBC at the Chelsea
Flower Show and as a horticultural consultant on the television quiz show The Answer Lies in the Soil.
Ingrid has also been a researcher for Gardeners World
presenter Rachel de Thame on her book Top
100 Star Plants and she has also contributed writing and book reviews to
the journal Topiarius.
Over the years she studied flower and plant photography with
Heather Angel and Clive Nichols, studied photography at Central St. Martin Art
School in London and she has successfully completed an Open University course
in Digital Photography. Many of Ingrid’s photographs are licensed by Getty Images.
Over several years Ingrid ran a small but very successful
business buying and selling vintage on Ebay. As a result Ingrid has an
extensive collection of props made up of antiques, vintage, retro, reclamation
items and garden antiques.
She has taken numerous flower arranging classes with top
London florists Paula Pryke and the late Jane Packer as well as workshops at
Petershams Nurseries and some great flower arranging classes with the florist, gardener,
writer and TV presenter Sarah Raven.
Ingrid is part of Jane Means' international Ribbon Blogging Team. The team style and photograph craft projects using Jane's ribbons.
In 2011 she started a Flickr group called Flowers and Vintage and she continues to moderate the group. The group has over 5,490
beautiful floral images and around 430 members.
Since 2012 Ingrid has been a Contributing Editor and Floral Stylist for Gatherings Magazine, an e-magazine that is now publishing its seventh issue.

The blog title Of Spring and Summer was inspired
by a line in a poem by Dylan Thomas called
Poem in October.
"But all the gardens
Of spring and summer were
blooming in the tall tales"
