A Bunch for the Weekend - # 104 - Pon-Pon and Cappuccino Ranunculus

This week on 'A Bunch for the Weekend' - I'm featuring a fabulous bunch of mixed Pon-Pon and Cappuccino Ranunculus - absolutely gorgeous in both shape and colour.

Here is a little "statement" that I add - to briefly explaining my thinking behind these particular posts:

"It's always a pleasure and lots of fun to buy a bunch of flowers for the weekend and this series of blog posts, called 'A Bunch for the Weekend, I will show you how you can make quick and easy flower arrangements for your home. 

Buy the flowers where it's convenient and easy for you whether that is from a flower stall, farmers' market, the supermarket or a florist. 

Always try to buy seasonal flowers - they will last longer and they will be a lot cheaper.

Make sure you condition the flowers as soon as you get home. Remove any foliage that will end up below the waterline in the vase. Trim the ends of the stems at an angle and put in fresh water as soon as possible."

Sometimes I find flowers at my local flower stall that makes me go weak at the knees and I instantly fall in love with them. 

These two Ranunculus are really quite special - the pon-pon one has ruffled petals and the colouring on the petals vary from flower to flower.

The Cappuccino style has very distinct bands of stronger colours on the edges of the petals.  

A few delicious cherries in a little dish. The colour echos the dark pink in the flowers.

I have not used a lot of colourful props apart from the cherries and the pink stripe on the jug. I wanted nothing that would make the eye leave the flowers.

Just a softly folded unbleached linen runner and a few clear glass containers in the back - just visible.

This is the kind of flowers that doesn't need any other flowers or foliage. They are a statement just by themselves - nothing else is needed.

I have varied the height of the stems to give the arrangement some added texture and movement.

Florets - Floral Quote - # 135 - by Paula Pryke

Florets - Floral Quote' is a series of blog posts where I feature quotes by authors - mostly well known but you will also find some obscure ones.

All of them have written one or several books about flowers, gardening, interior styling or interior design. Many are experts in their field but what is the most important is that they are all passionate about flowers.

I love books and in my ever growing library I look for quotes that I hope will be both helpful and useful for everybody who is arranging and styling flowers.

Tiny Blooms - # 10 - Pink Roses in Green Glass Bottles

This series of blog posts - called 'Tiny Blooms - are about small arrangements. Small - might be the size of the container or it could be the size of the flowers or the amount of stems in each container. It will also be that the arrangement is minimal both in presentation and that it's quick and easy to do. Apart from that there are no other strict rules - I'm allowing myself a lot of creative freedom!

This time I'm featuring seven pink roses in vintage green glass bottles. I had a few roses left over from another project I was working on and thought that it would be nice to use some for my 'Tiny Blooms' series of blog posts.

There are two different kinds of roses one pure pink and the other one has a pink centre while the outer petals has a greenish tinge. 

I added some green and pink colouring pencils to pick up some of the colours in the flowers and the glass.

The glass bottles are a mixture of ink bottles and apothecary bottles. They are perfect to use when you just want to use one flower stem in each container. 

I have cut the stems quite short because I wanted the flower heads to rest on the rim of the bottles.

We all love scented garden roses during the summer months - but roses are available in all kinds of colours all year around from supermarkets, florists and street flower sellers. If you look out for roses with short stems they are more reasonably priced. 

Roses also tend to last for a long, long time - if you condition the flowers, frequently change the water and keep them cool at night. 

A simple arrangement like this you can make at a very low cost, its quick and easy and it looks beautiful!
