Floral Media # 15 - Tulips and Other Bulbs

On the 15 January its Tulip Day - Tulpanens Dag - in Sweden. The tulip flower is the most popular cut flower in Sweden and also one of my favourite flowers. Minna Mercke Schmidt at Blomsterverkstad photographed some stunning tulip arrangements created by Gunnar Kaj.

This is an update of a post of mine that was previously published two years ago. I'm reposting it because it gives you a little bit of the history of tulips.

Claus Dalby shows some Paperwhites planted in big planters. The bulbs are planted quite close and as a nice finish Claus has put gravel on the surface in between the bulbs.

Erin Boyle on Gardenista shows you how to grow Lily of the Valley on a windowsill.

Miss Pickering - as she likes to call herself - is a florist and blogger, she likes to cook and has a dog she calls 'The Hound'.
I love this wall of stacked old wooden crates in her flower shop in Stamford - full of planted and cut flowering bulbs.

Be still my heart! I am very happy to have found your blog with it's exquisite pictures and invaluable guidance concerning floristry! I adore snowdrops for many reasons but mostly because they herald the glory of the spring pageant still to come!

Warm wishes from France,

Stephanie

I adore tulips! They are my favourite flowers. I wished we had a tulip day here in Belgium. Your post makes me long for spring with all its lovely fresh flowers.
Have a wonderful day,
Marian

Thank you Ingrid for all the lovely ideas and pictures - I have never thought of trying to force lily of the valley inside. I have some pips in my cold frames that didn't get planted outside last year so I am gong to go and bring them into the kitchen and give it a go.

Oh how this post is making me long for spring, Ingrid. However, my paper whites are in bloom, and they are so pretty this year. Time to get my camera out, before they are gone.

Thank you so much for all of this beauty, on a very gray day here. xo.

So many pretty, colorful images today. I love the idea of Tulip Day, as they are one of my most favorite flowers. :)
I am off to visit the places you've so generously shared...

Tulip day a great idea. I only think January 15th is a bit early. At this time there are only tulips grown in glasshouses.
