Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Summer Flowers

Summer flowers - who doesn't love summer flowers weather they are from your own garden, picked from the side of the road or field out in the country or bought from the farmers' market or flower stall.

Life is easy and the sun is shining - or it's suppose to - but even if it's raining you enjoy the sound of the rain on the roof and you stay warm by the open fire.

I often feel that summer flowers are extra special - with delicate colours and wonderful textures.

Here are ten simple and easy little summer arrangements to be inspired by.

Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Daisies

The daisy family is the largest in the entire spectrum of families of flowering plants, and as might be expected the diversity of flower heads within it almost endless.

I have picked out some of the more humble but very charming and pretty daisies - all made into simple little flower arrangements in varying types of containers.

Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Sweet Peas

Sweet Sweet Peas

Sweet peas are ideal for cutting, not least because the more you pick the more they flower.

If you grow sweet peas in your garden and you keep picking them throughout the summer, a couple of times a week, you will have flowers for months.

They are good climbers so you can grow them up arches, on a fence or trellis; as well as on wigwams made from canes or tall sticks. Grow them in a flower border, cutting garden or a vegetable plot.

There are a wide range of colours available - from purples, white, blues, pinks, red, creams, salmon and multi-coloured - and whatever colour make sure you get the scented kind.

The Latin or botanical name for sweet pea is Lathyrus odoratus; lathyros is Greek for pea or pulse and odoratus means very fragrant.

As cut flowers from the florist, flower market or the farmers' market they are available from spring to late summer.

My series of photographs from my Flickr Group Flowers and Vintage continues and this time it's all about White Hydrangeas.

Hydrangeas are a very popular flowering shrub, they are easy to grow and there are hundreds of varieties. They are long-flowering and they come in colours ranging from brilliant blue, through soft pinks to striking deep reds and pure whites and some also have interesting autumn leaves.

Hydrangeas are wonderful as a cut flower and they also look great as a dried flower - that lasts for ages.
