" If I have a very decorative vase, I pair it with the simplest of flowers - a single hydrangea head, perhaps, or a couple of arum lilies. By the same token, a large, dramatic arrangement needs a container that won't compete with the flowers. 

The traditional rule of using an odd number of flowers in an arrangement still stands. An odd number will result in a composition that's less regimented and has the asymmetrical randomness of nature."
