ABOUT

My name is Ingrid Henningsson and I write the blog Of Spring and Summer. My blog explores flowers, floral styling and photography with some vintage and retro thrown into the mix. I'm a stylist and a photographer, born in Sweden and now based in London, England - combining Scandinavian aesthetics with the vibrancy of London life.

I launched Of Spring and Summer in 2009 and the blog is now updated throughout the week. I do take a few weeks off during the summer months and Christmas to re-charge my batteries, to find new inspiration and gather ideas for new projects.

The topics range from flowers and flower arranging tips, floral colour stories, mood-boards and flower photography and videos plus book and magazine reviews and inspirational floral quotes by florists and other flower lovers.

I went to Camberwell School of Art and Camden Art Centre where I studied painting, drawing and textiles. Later on I trained as a garden designer and horticulturist at The English Gardening School  based at The Chelsea Physic Garden in London. After my training I taught at the school for six years. I lectured in flower and plant knowledge, botanical nomenclature and horticulture; and supervised and marked the student's Plant Portfolios that they created for the Practical Horticulture course at the school.

For a while I worked on a freelance basis as a horticultural researcher for the BBC at the Chelsea Flower Show and as a horticultural consultant on the television gardening quiz show The Answer Lies in the Soil.

I have been a researcher for my colleague and friend - Gardeners World presenter and author Rachel de Thame on her book Top100 Star Plants.

I have also contributed photographs, writing as well as book reviews in Topiarius - the journal of the European Boxwood and Topiary Society.

Over the years I studied flower and plant photography with Heather Angel and Clive Nichols, I also studied photography at Central St. Martin Art School in London and I have successfully completed an Open University course in Digital Photography. A selection of my photographs are licensed by Getty Images.

Over several years I ran a small but very successful business buying and selling vintage on Ebay. As a result I have an extensive collection of props made up of antiques, vintage, retro, reclamation items and garden antiques.

I have taken numerous flower arranging classes with top London florists Paula Pryke and the late Jane Packer as well as workshops at Petersham Nurseries and some great flower arranging classes with the florist, gardener, writer and TV presenter Sarah Raven.

In 2011 I started a Flickr group called Flowers and Vintage and I continue to moderate the group. The group has over 7,000 beautiful floral images and over 600 members.

I have since 2012, been part of Jane Means' international Ribbon Blogging Team. The team style and photograph craft projects using Jane's ribbons.

In seven issues between 2012 and 2014 I was a Contributing Editor and Floral Stylist for Gatherings Magazine, a quarterly magazine that was available both in a digital and print version - it's sadly no longer being published.

I have also contributed to the e-magazine Blossom Zine - a digital magazine edited by Dana Frigerio.

In late 2013 I started a collaboration with Titti Malmberg who writes the Swedish blog HWIT BLOGG. Our collaboration was called FLOWERS by ingrid and titti, where we styled and photographed themed floral arrangements that we posted on our blogs twice a month.

In 2013 I also completed a course in Freelance Writing for Newspapers and Magazines at City Lit Institute in London. It was a practical guide to freelance journalism, learning techniques for researching, interviewing, assembling and presenting material.

I completed a City and Guild Level 1 Certificate in Floral Design in July 2015 and I gained a 'Distinction' grade. At the end of the course I was also nominated for a 'Learner Award in recognition for outstanding progress and achievement'.

Lately, I have attended a Lifestyle Journalism and Blogging course at The London School of Journalism.

The blog title 'Of Spring and Summer' was inspired

by a line in a poem by Dylan Thomas written in 1944.

"But all the gardens

 Of spring and summer were

 blooming in the tall tales"
