It is a great pleasure to buy beautiful, fresh and locally grown vegetables.
Just like many of the cut flowers that I buy, all these vegetables are from the Farmers Market.
Gorgeous coloured cabbage, brussel sprouts still on their stalk, deliciously pink turnips and two kinds of beetroot. One deep red the other lighter in colour and white with red streaks when you cut it open.
The most striking in shape and colour was the Romanesco broccoli. The head is made up of conical florets that makes a spiral pattern. It is light green in colour and tastes like a mild cauliflower.
We had a delicious dinner consisting of lamb burgers with grated beetroot, steamed Romanesco broccoli and roasted potatoes. Today I found an article with a few more suggestions on how to use the unusual Romanesco broccoli.

Vilka färger, som en målning! Jättegott ser det ut också!
Så underbart vackert och gott, som riktiga målningar!
I always buy Romanesco when it appears in the local shop - I cannot resist its colour and the geometric pattern!
Dear Ingrid, What a beautiful 'vegetable still life'. It would make the most glorious painting and clearly made the most delicious meal.
What a lovely picturs you have made of your vegetables!!
Lovely greetings, Ingrid

Grönsaker är verkligen vackra. Jag gjorde grönsakssoppa idag. Passar till det tråkiga grå vädret.
Ha det fint.

I've never seen Romanesco broccoli before - it's amazing! Gorgeous photos as always, Ingrid! Like a Dutch painting. :)

Ingrid, as I looked at all the gorgeous autumn vegetables in you photos, I so admired how they looked in their just-plucked state, and wondered, how is Ingrid going to cook these beauties?
Thank your for answering that question. I hope to make a visit to our Union Square greenmarket before the end of the week, do my own admiring of the displays, and take some of the beauties home to my kitchen. Might consult some of your recipe hints. xo
Vilka förföriska bilder - färgerna är sååå vackra.
Så lyxigt med din "Farmers". Blir riktigt avundsjuk.
