Pretty Pastel Style by Selina Lake

Selina Lake's latest book Pretty Pastel Style was just published by Ryland Peters and Small - and it's all about decorating interiors with pastel shades.

The gorgeous photography is by Catherine Gratwicke.

I have two of Selina's previous books, Romantic Style and Homespun Style and they are both lovely.

Usually I only really review books about flowers and flower arranging or flower styling. Well, this book is full of flowers almost every page has some kind of flower arrangement using  fresh flowers - so I am not talking about flowers on fabrics or walls - of which there are plenty.

In the chapter Fabric and Flowers Selina says: "Fresh blooms are a marvellous addition to any room, filling it with organic colour and delicate fragrance. Best of all, they come in a rainbow of pretty pastels."
Selina has styled I think it must be about two hundred arrangements for the book. She has used a variety of containers from delicate graceful glass vases to jam jars.

There are also many creative examples of using large old demijohn bottles, old milk bottles, little glass jars or water glasses of every size and shape. Jugs in pretty pastel colours as well as enamelled ones is another favourite.

The cut flowers are loosely displayed either as a relaxed posy of mixed blooms or as single stems. Selina has often used roses in soft pink, off-white and faded peach colours.

She has filled jugs with branches of spring blossoms and cups or pastel coloured vases with hydrangeas in soft shades of pink, purple and green.

The arrangements are used as centrepieces on dining tables,  on side tables in living-rooms and on little shelves or tables in the bedroom.

The last chapter of the book is called Outdoor Living and Selina has created some very pretty arrangements for outdoor spaces. You'll find both an abundance of roses as well as wild flowers in vases, jars and baskets.

I hope you have enjoyed my little review of Selina's lovely and very pretty book.
