Winter Bouquet for Christmas

Here is a short video showing you how to make a very simple winter bouquet for Christmas.



The two main colours are white and grey green foliage.

The flowers are spray chrysanthemums, roses, limonium and single chrysanthemums and the foliage are grey-green eucalyptus and beargrass.

The bouquet is made as a handtied arrangement where all the stems are crossed. You can tie it with some raffia ready to give as a gift or simply put in a beautiful vase like they have done here.

A Bunch for the Weekend - # 93 - Winter Bouquet

In this week's 'A Bunch for the Weekend' I'm featuring a large winter arrangements full of colour and texture. 

We have Ornamental Cabbages also called Brassica, Queen Anne's Lace or Wild Carrot also called Daucus carota, Sea Holly also called Eryngium and last but not least a small leafed Eucalyptus.

It's always a pleasure and lots of fun to buy a bunch of flowers for the weekend and this series of blog posts, called 'A Bunch for the Weekend, I will show you how you can make quick and easy flower arrangements for your home. 

Buy the flowers where it's convenient and easy for you whether that is from a flower stall, farmers' market, the supermarket or a florist. 

Always try to buy seasonal flowers - they will last longer and they will be a lot cheaper.

Make sure you condition the flowers as soon as you get home. Remove any foliage that will end up below the waterline in the vase. Trim the ends of the stems at an angle and put in fresh water as soon as possible.

Here you can see a few of the props I have used around the flower arrangement. A vintage basket bought in Sweden at a loppis - the equivalent to the British car-boot-sale or the American flea-markets.

The big jar and the little cream-ware jars are from antique markets in the UK, the candle-holder I inherited from my mother and the long tapered candles was a present from our daughter. 

A close up of the fabulous Brassica, the flat flower head of the Daucus carota with its tiny white flowers, the spiky thistle like Eryngium - all surrounded by grey-green Eucalyptus foliage.

The small leafed Eucalyptus has long narrow leaves and is darker and more delicate than the more common large leafed version.

The brown jar is a Höganäs salt glazed pickling jar from Sweden. My grandmother had lot of this kind of jars in her cellar.  

I love these very tall tapered candles - graceful and elegant and I also love how the two colours my daughter picked out matches the candle holder.
