Florets - Floral Quote - # 140 - by Alethea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo

'Florets - Floral Quote' is a series of blog posts where I feature quotes by authors - mostly well known but you will also find some obscure ones.

All of them have written one or several books about flowers, gardening, interior styling or interior design. Many are experts in their field but what is the most important is that they are all passionate about flowers.

I love books and in my ever growing library I look for quotes that I hope will be both helpful and useful for everybody who is arranging and styling flowers.

"TULIPS
These spring beauties can sometimes be difficult to work with because of their bendy stems and ever-changing shape. They continue to grow after they are cut, so trim them a bit shorter than you normally would when you first use them in an arrangement. If you leave enough space in your arrangement to account for movement and growth, their opening process is a pleasure to watch."

Creative with Flowers - # 31 - Double Pink Tulips and Vintage Green Glass Bottles

This week on 'Creative with Flowers' - YES! it's more tulips - one of my favourite flowers.

It's a fabulous multi-colored double tulip - that I don't know the name of.....! But I will try to find out from my supplier.

This series of blog posts - called 'Creative with Flowers' - are about using flowers in new and creative ways. It could be about how the flowers are combined - maybe in a little bit of an unusual way. It might be the choice of vase - maybe not a vase at all but a container that could be anything from jugs, bottles, jars, tins or teapots - vintage or new it doesn't matter.

As always my arrangements will be quick and easy - and there will always be lots and lots of colour!

Every single flower head is different from the next one. Some are big others small, the colouration on the petals are also different - the colours are two different pink, the inside of the flower is yellow and it has streaks of green.

The leaves also vary in shape and colour and some leaves are edged with white.

The stems are taller than usual and some curve and bend others grow completely straight.

When they open up the whole flower spreads their petals and almost turns itself inside out. In the centre as an interesting contrast are some very black stamens.

I wanted this fascinating tulip to speak for itself so I kept the surrounding colours plain and simple.

A vintage apothecary jar holds the large arrangement and it sits on a knitted white vintage little hand towel that is from my grandmother's house in Sweden.

All the glass containers are vintage green glass - some are ink bottles others big jars. The only contrasting thing is the little piece of black and white fabric where the black is picked up in the black lettering and the black stamens.

Enjoy your flower arranging and have a fabulous floral Wednesday!

Thanks you for visiting 'Of Spring and Summer'. I will be back later in the week with more floral delights. I'll see you then.

Florets - Floral Quote - # 136 - by Willow Crossley

Deep pink tulips

" Seek out the crazy, frilly, striped parrot varieties. The crazier the better. The white and raspberry streaked 'Rem's Favourite' brings so much joy to a kitchen table. For a slightly more subtle moment, there's a pale green and pink striped sensation called ' Green Wave' or consider the lily-flowered 'China Pink', or "tall 'White Triumphator' with their elegant relaxed petals that open out into flat star shapes. One of the joys of tulips is their long life in a vase - up to two weeks - alongside their habit of starting cup-shaped, then gradually unfurling and finally dropping their petals one by one. They have a very graceful way of dying."
