Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Daisies

The daisy family is the largest in the entire spectrum of families of flowering plants, and as might be expected the diversity of flower heads within it almost endless.

I have picked out some of the more humble but very charming and pretty daisies - all made into simple little flower arrangements in varying types of containers.

Some little treasures from the garden.

Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Spring Flowers

There is something very special with spring flowers. Here is a quote by the English florist and event designer Shane Connolly where he describes that feeling:

"Spring, as it gathers pace, releases wave after wave of sensory delights and combines them with an innocent natural prettiness. I always try to capture that pure, unsophisticated charm when I use spring flowers and plants at home. But, above all, I relish the sense of excitement and anticipation that spring's growing bulbs and opening blossoms give me at the start of each year."

Florets - Floral Quote by Rachel Ashwell

"Flowers are perhaps the most exquisite detail of all. Endlessly versatile, they enrich my soul and inspire my sense of beauty. I love flowers that look as though they just came from the garden, casual yet perfect. The contrived perfection of hothouse flowers is not for me. I prefer arrangements that are not too precious, arrangements that look as if I've just gone outside and gathered my favourites."

Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Roses

I am continuing the theme of 'Unusual Containers' - and this time the flowers are Roses.

I wanted to show a very traditional flower like the rose being arranged in some unusual containers.

Roses are the world's most popular flowers and there are so many of them that you'll find one for every taste.

"There are roses for every soil and position. There are roses for tropical climates and roses that will flourish in the Arctic Circle. Most roses bloom non-stop until the first frost of winter; in warm climates, they flower for 12 months of the year. They tolerate neglect, but respond generously to extra care. For the lazy gardeners - and busy people with little time to waste - roses cannot be beaten."

Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - Lilacs

I love lilacs of almost every colour and when lilacs are flowering - to me that means that spring has arrived. They are also of great sentimental value as they remind me of my childhood in Sweden. We had a huge pink lilac next to the steps our house and the scent was incredible!

"Lilac season begins in April and continues through May, filling the landscape with its ineffable perfume that stirs up memories and fills us with nostalgia. Few can resist the beauty of lilacs, which make extravagant spring bouquets."

Flowers and Vintage Flickr Group - More Unusual Containers

Here are some more Unusual Containers from my Flickr group Flowers and Vintage. I just love the inventiveness and creativity in the different choices of containers that people have made for their flower arrangements.

I particularly like the jug with the Art Deco pattern on the side and the plain galvanized bucket is charming. The French re-cycled 'confitures' jar is also divine.

I also like how even the most simple and plain flower looks so good in a little bit of a different container rather than a boring glass vase. Enjoy!
