Lovely Yellow

I am going to stick my head out a little bit and talk about the colour yellow.
A lot of people don't like yellow. Some refuse to have any yellow flowers in their garden.
I used to be guilty of this. If I was pushed I would possibly have yellow daffodils in the early spring. After that you would not see a single yellow flower in my garden. Nor would I ever wear yellow clothes. That is still the case. My Scandinavian skin tones does not go well with yellow. You won't find a lot of yellow in my house. It is not a colour that I find easy to live with.

Still - I love yellow as a colour. I think it is an optimistic colour, it shines and exudes warmth. It represents sunshine and when the sun is out it makes us feel warm and cosy.
Yellow has a lot of different associations from bad to very good.
The painter Vincent van Gogh painted vases of yellow sunflowers. These paintings has become some of the most famous paintings in the world.

Some of my favorite yellows are more towards orange. I am thinking of amber, apricot, brandy, honey, mustard, saffron , ochre and whisky.
Lets not forget the lovely yellow of lemons and  grapefruits and how it reminds us of the taste and where they grow.
The list of wonderful yellow flowers is as long as my arm. Lovely yellow daffodils and tulips in the spring. Yellow roses during the summer. One of my favorite that I have posted about before is the mellow yellow climbing rose Rosa banksiae 'Lutea'.
Here is another post about the same rose.
So what happened?
My taste changed and I now do grow and very much enjoy a few yellow flowers in my garden.

Sometimes people feel very strongly about a colour.
How do you feel about yellow?
Do you love it or hate it?

Have a wonderful weekend.

 Ingrid xx

  1. Yellow is not my favorite colour. In my garden my flowers are white, pink and purple! I also never wear yellow clothes...no, even if I try I can not accept it :)

But you are right...yellow and summer, that's a lovely combination!

Have a nice weekend! Warm regards, Ingrid

  5. Dear Ingrid, Yellow is such an arresting colour and always attracts the eye. For these reasons, its use in the garden should be sparing But, in my garden, sparing with regard to yellow means not at all...even Daffodils are banned....I do not own any yellow clothes....they just serve to make me look jaundiced and I avoid the sun...pale and interesting is the look I go for!!

I do, however, enjoy a lemon tart!

  7. I love yellow and I adore yellow spider mums in arrangements—though creme is nice too.

Color prejudice is something that has always confused me. My mom used to have an entire acre full of red and white blooms and this bothered me.

Needless to say, our city garden is a riot of color, so in my mind, there is always something for everyone.

  10. I think of yellow and think of egg yolks, daffodils, some tulips, sunflowers, butter and buttercups, dandilions, the sun, mustard, borderline of gold, lemons, and many other associations.

I love yellow for its light and energy. I have fair skin with a yellow undertone, and so cannot easily wear yellow or most green shades.

I have no garden, but if I did, I know I would include daffodils. Not too sure about sunflowers, yellow tulips or mums, though.

Like the yellow in your photos, though. xo

  11. Helt underbara bilder!

  14. Yellow is not a favorite color of mine either, I feel the exact same way you do about yellow in my garden or even wearing yellow. A few years back a neighbor painted their house mustard yellow and I couldn't stand to look at it! :))) But your picture of yellow tulips looks so pleasing to the eye and I am thinking it also has to do with the blue vase that hold tulips. Just a thought.
    Have a wonderful Saturday,

  15. I used to hate yellow. I've always liked yellow roses and flowers but yellow on other things just didn't appeal to me. However, that has all changed and I find myself being drawn to the color. Crazy how that happens as we older. Love your photo's. BEAUTIFUL :)

  20. I like yellow too, and for me, as for you, it is an acquired taste. My favorite flower is a rose, and I have come to appreciate how well yellow blooms and light green leaves go together.

  21. I LOVE yellow in the garden.
I wonder if it has to do with our stronger sunlight down here in Australia.

You gotta love yellow roses in the garden though, right?

  22. Beautiful photos, Ingrid. Hmm, I'm not a big fan of much yellow in decor or fashion, but I prefer warmer, golden yellows to greener hues. Although daffodils are my favorite flower (along with roses) so in that regard, I love yellow! Thanks for your visit and lovely comment. Have a great week! :) xo – g

  23. Gult och orange är två färger jag spontant har lite svårt för. Ändå blir jag så glad av olika saker i just dom färgerna... Fast jag har svårt att skapa i dom
