Peonies are often thought of as a cottage garden flower, but they also have an aristocratic and exotic past.
They are lush and luxurious and their opulent frilled petals are at home in any setting.
I have made the arrangement in an old vintage enamel water jug.
The jug is French and in an unusual dark grey colour.
I love the shape of the jug and the clean lines of the handle and spout.
The grey is picked up in an old Victorian metal grate that I have added as a contrast to the arrangangement.
You can't have enough of small glass bottles. Perfect for using in small flower arrangments.
A small glass bowl with a peony bud sits on top of two books. The top book is Virginia Woolf's
It was written in 1925 and I like the first line in the book which is:
"Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself."
I have yet to read the book but I did see the film The Hours. In the movie the book plays an important part.
Have a wonderful day!
Ingrid xoxo

i love your pics!!! greetings, angie
ReplyDeletePeonies are sublime! You've certainly used them very well in your arrangements. The tone of grey truly compliments the peonies' beauty.
ReplyDeleteI love those old bottles, too, and must remind myself to be on the look out for a few more myself.
Please do eventually read Mrs Dalloway. The book will allow you to appreciate the film The Hours even more...and then you could start another circle by reading The Hours!
Best wishes.
Fantastiskt!
ReplyDeleteKram!
Very Lovely post Ingrid ~ I love peonies my Mother had bushes of them and they dry beautifully. Your choice of using the pink peony with the perfect shade of grey makes for the most beautiful setting. I love your added touch of the book Mrs Dalloway, I've never read it, now I'm most intrigued!!! Let's compare notes. :)
ReplyDeleteLots of hugs, Rosemary...XX
Ingrid, these photographs belong in a magazine!!! Each one is just so very beautiful. Peonies are one of my very favorites, and ours are just beginning to bloom now.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful evening, and thank you so much for all of this beauty!
I find your compositions fascinating. The yellow shield for the book title, is just the right colour, in the right place. Just enough to make all the pink sparkle that little bit more vibrantly!
ReplyDeletePeonies are a childhood favourite for me. Nothing says "pretty" like a fluffy pink peony!
ReplyDeleteLovely composition. :)
ReplyDeleteyour arrangements are always a gift to our eyes!!! And I can´t get engough f old bottles , too!! a big kiss!
ReplyDeleteVilket underbart arrangemang!!
Kram

These are the loveliest of the lovelies, Ingrid!!
ReplyDeleteHave a sweet evening xx
Beautiful arrangement! I love peonies. I have one peony bush & unfortunately for my peonies the moment that one bloomed one of my boys was out there cutting it off to give to me. So, we had lots of peony bouquets on our table but not so many on the bush itself.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, words fail me when it comes to peonies! Their sumptuousness is perfectly contrasted with that simple but elegant pitcher, Ingrid. Great combination! And I agree about the small bottles.
ReplyDeleteHope your week is going splendidly!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful arrangements, Ingrid! I LOVE peonies! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy one,
~ Zuzu
Love Peonies. They look especially great in the gray enamel jug. Wonderful image!
ReplyDeleteVilka fina pioner.
Old iron gates make lovely garden features such as trellis. I have always wanted to use a huge gate from a stately home as a headboard. :) xx
