"Less is more" was a motto that was adopted by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. It has been used a lot within minimalist architecture, design, art and music. It is also very much part of the Scandinavian aesthetics and I sometimes adhere to it!.
In this case with the ornamental cabbages and purple scarves it is more of a "More is more".
It was very hard to resist these colourful beauties in the shop. BUT it is after all only a cabbage or to be more precise a kale. What is so special about them? They have been used extensively in French portager for centuries. The famous garden at Villandry is one example. They are also very sculptural and are a welcome splash of colour in the autumn. They have a wonderful texture and are quite hard to the touch. My daughter and I agreed that they look a lot like coral and they hold reflecting water droplets beautifully.
Indoors you can use them as table decoration with some greenery around. Or like I have done here wrap some fabric around to hide the pots.
They can later be planted out in the garden and they also look wonderful in a pots.

ReplyDeleteDear Ingrid, Whilst I have often admired the minimalist styles of others I have always veered towards themaximalist. More is definitely more for me and even more is better still!

ReplyDeleteJust yesterday, some were planted in very large containers at the entrance to my apartment building. I hope that our first night time frost will hold off for several weeks, so we can all enjoy these decorative touches.
